The more I work with young adults the more I want to educate them and mentor them. It's been a hard couple of years at the college. The economy hasn't done us any favors and when enrollment is off even a little bit, you are definitely going to feel it across the board. Yesterday, it was announced that 10 positions will be cut. And as you can imagine students are completely up in arms. No one wants this to happen but hard decisions had to be made. It makes me sad because I know friends will lose their jobs. And for the most part these are people who live for our school and the students they work with. The interesting part is how many students have voiced opinions and how uninformed they are about these decisions that were made. I'm not sure what my reaction would have been if the same situation happened while I was in school. I do remember that the college had some of the biggest increases in tuition the school had ever seen in it's history while I was a student. (Today students can expect 4-5% increase most years.) So where does that leave me today.... just some rambling thoughts of the last 24 hours.
